Inspections

- This explains a process of ensuring a quality independent assessment of whether or not the members to the NEC comply with the minimum standards that are provided for in their Collective Bargaining Agreement (SI 7 of 2019). The inspectorate role falls within the powers of the Designated Agent who in turn administers a standard instrument that assists him to obtain a variety of information relating to whether or not a member complies as expected.
- Amongst its key coverage, the instrument seeks to get the information regarding the following areas; work-related accidents, occupational illnesses, environmental incidences, SHE surveillances, worker participation in decisions that affect them (the right to organise and associate), manner of handling disciplinary matters, availability of the code of conduct, disaggregation of employees in terms of gender, minimum wages, HIV and AIDS related information, capacity building initiatives etcetera.
- This is a collaborative effort that is proactive in its approach thereby assisting to manage signs and potential manifestations of disputes that will eventually become a threat to the well being of the industry and the nation at large.
- Through a deliberate practice of the inspectorate role, be it routine, investigative or otherwise, the Designated Agent encourages, promotes, informs, educates, persuades, influences and ultimately enforces the applicable law where the earlier efforts would have proved unfruitful.
