Cement & Lime and Allied Workers Union of Zimbabwe(CLAWUZ)
The Cement and Lime and Allied Workers Union of Zimbabwe is a body corporate. It was registered with the Ministry of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare on the 18th of September 1990. The office is presided over by the Union President who would have been elected in terms of the Union constitution from time to time, otherwise, its day to day running rests in the hands of the Secretary-General who provides both the administrative and technical support to the well being of the Union.
The purpose for which CLAWUZ came into being was to assist the workers that are employed under the Cement and Lime and Allied Industry, to organize themselves for the purposes of advancing their rights in the workplace. Amongst its key responsibilities, CLAWUZ does the following;
- Assisting to regulate the relations between their constituent members and employers with regards to issues in employment.
- Promoting the interests of the workers by enabling their development through frequent practical and technical training so that they impart a strong sense of worker confidence.
- Assisting to provide the establishment of good and fair practices in the premises in which work is done with regards to safety, health and environmental issues, collective bargaining and dispute settlements.
- Providing, when deemed necessary, legal assistance to its members in connection with or arising from their employment.
- Participating in the decision making process for the industry regulatory body (NEC), making sure that all industry regulations that are put in place, are very sensitive and fair down to the ordinary worker.
